Name: Tyler Yung Position you are running for: USD 470 Board of Education Family members (e.g. spouse, children, grandchildren): Married my high school sweetheart, Alysha, and have two boys, Oakley and Easton. How long have you lived in Arkansas City? I moved to Arkansas City in 1997 and started attending Jefferson Elementary, and have lived here ever since. Have you served on any boards previously? I have served on Employee Association boards, as well as the Relay for Life Committee at GE. I also have volunteer hours working on some of the Habitat for Humanity houses and projects at the Chaplin Nature Center. Coaching Rec League sports is one of my favorites as it is a way to give back to many children at once. Why did you choose to run for this position? It is personal for me. I am passionate about this community because I grew up, went to school and graduated here in Arkansas City. I want my boys to have the same quality and positive experiences that I had. Name: Hola, Aloha, greetings My name is Timothy A. Perry Position you are running for: I’m running for city council in the Ark City area. Family members (e.g. spouse, children, grandchildren): N/a How long have you lived in Arkansas City? I have lived in Ark City for 18 years and this isn’t the first time I ran for office. Have you served on any boards previously? No, I haven’t served on any boards in Ark City. Why did you choose to run for this position? I choose to run for this city council is because I wanted to see how government was run from the inside. South Central Kansas Medical Center (SCKMC) currently owes around $2 million to the City of Arkansas City in loan repayment, plus continued special assessment payments. SCKMC has promised to start repaying the city by the beginning of 2018. What steps, if any, do you think should be taken to address this issue? In general, what does the city need to do to ensure continued financial stability for SCKMC? Do you think significantly reorganizing and/or selling SCKMC should occur, and if so, why? I think the city should be able to continue to support the hospital. Every city needs a hospital infrastructure, including our city. Name: Lori Barnes Position you are running for: USD 470 School Board Family members (e.g. spouse, children, grandchildren): Zach Barnes, spouse; Lucas Barnes, eighth-grader at Ark City Middle School; and Kennedy Barnes, a fourth-grader at Sacred Heart Catholic School. How long have you lived in Arkansas City? I have lived in Ark City now for 19 years. I am what some would call a “transplant” to the area. I moved here after graduating from Emporia State University and marrying my husband. I grew up Olathe (as well as several other Kansas towns) and graduated from Olathe South High School. While I miss my family in KC, Ark City has become my home and has been a great place to raise a family. Have you served on any boards previously? I have served on the Sacred Heart Catholic School Board and Cowley County Humane Society Board.
