Despite working 40 hours a week and taking 23 credit-hours this semester at Cowley College, Edgar Fuentes somehow manages to find time to be an involved student at the main campus in Arkansas City and maintain a 4.0 grade-point average. The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) president and Student Ambassador was recognized recently for his outstanding work by being named Cowley College’s December Student of the Month. The sophomore pre-law major is the son of Pablo and Francisca Fuentes. He has two brothers, Pablo, 28, and Erik, 20, as well as a sister, Maricela, 31. All three received associate’s degrees from Cowley College. “My siblings enjoyed their experience at Cowley and encouraged me to attend,” Fuentes said. “I’ve met a lot of great people, and have had the privilege of working closely with others in activities and clubs.” He graduated from Arkansas City High School in 2016. At ACHS, he was involved in Scholars Bowl and band, and also was a mathematics tutor. At Cowley, Fuentes also is a member of the Collegiate Quiz Bowl team, Game Club, Math and Science Club, and Multicultural Scholars Program.
