Ark City Daily Bytes is a multimedia news service geared toward residents of the Arkansas City, Kansas, area.
Daily Bytes seeks to reach readers of all generations with multimedia content that engages them, whether in print or online.
The company was founded by Kayleigh Lawson and Jeni McGee in 2016.
Kayleigh Lawson is an Arkansas City native. She was homeschooled during her elementary and secondary years.
Lawson studied creative writing for many years before getting her start in the journalism world. She started as a circulation clerk at her hometown newspaper before eventually being promoted to online editor.
By the time she left the company, she was working as the news editor and was in charge of the entire newsroom.
At her previous job, Lawson discovered a love for website management, branding and marketing, as well as keeping people informed.
She currently serves as president of the Arkansas City Public Library Board of Trustees and co-chairs RISE Cowley (previously the Cowley County Healthy Communities Coalition). She previously served on the Cowley County Humane Society board.
Her hobbies include reading and writing — but never arithmetic, if she can avoid it — as well as playing guitar and cooking.
Lawson married a hometown boy who also was a journalist and editor. He later “defected” and went to work in the government sector — she lovingly calls him a G-Man.
They have two cats, Fitz and Simmons.
Jeni McGee is a Derby, Kansas, native who transplanted when she met her future husband.
After a brief career in the aerospace industry, she attended Tabor College in Hillsboro, studying Christian ministry.
However, McGee always loved writing and listening to other’s stories. She worked as a reporter at the local newspaper before deciding to start a new company with her co-worker.
Her hobbies include crafting and playing the piano.
She is married to a local business owner, Gareth McGee. They have one dog, Hildi.
