A class that teaches individuals how to obtain an entry-level Amateur Radio License will begin March 2.
The class will be held over the course of five weeks. Classes will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays through March 30.
Classes will be held in the emergency operations center in the basement of the Cowley County Courthouse South Annex, located at 321 E. 10th Ave. in Winfield. There will be a $40 fee for the class, which includes the textbook and the test fee.
Amateur radio is a form of two-way radio communication with which licensed operators may communicate with other amateur radio operators, both locally and around the world. It is both a hobby and an emergency communications resource, according to a news release from Cowley County Emergency Management.
Operators often are able to still communicate when other means fail and have been valuable assets during many recent large-scale disasters.
Class size is limited. For more information or to reserve a seat, call the emergency management office at (620) 221-0470 or email email@example.com.
