The 2017 Amateur Radio Field Day will start at noon June 24. The event will last into June 25.

The ham radio open house is held every June in Cowley County.

At the same time, an estimated 40,000 hams nationwide set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio enthusiasts’ science, skill and service to their communities.

This year, the local event will be held at Lions Club Park, northeast of Arkansas City on 85th Road (Greens Farm Road).

The Cowley County Amateur Radio Club, in conjunction with Cowley County Emergency Management, will participate in this event. The public also is welcome to attend and participate.

Some club members will set up their stations to test their skills and talents in various aspects of ham radio.

The Cowley County Amateur Radio Club is a not-for-profit group that was formed in 1976 to support local amateur radio enthusiasts.

It promotes ham radio as a hobby and serves the citizens of Cowley County by providing emergency communications in times of crisis.
