Ark City Daily Bytes and the Arkansas City Area Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to host a forum for local political candidates Oct. 10 at the Arkansas City Senior Citizens Center.

Ark City Daily Bytes logoThe forum will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. The senior center is located at 320 South A St.

The forum will begin with the candidates for the Cowley College Board of Trustees, each of whom will have three minutes to answer questions posed by audience members through the moderator.

There are seven candidates for three positions. Those who will attend are Michael Bergagnini, Darrin Green, Jonathan Hansen and Gary Wilson, plus trustees Ned Graham, Bob Juden and Brian Sanderholm.

From 7 to 8 p.m., City Commission candidates will answer questions. Those confirmed to attend are Commissioner Jay Warren, Vice Mayor Karen Welch, and challengers Kanyon Gingher and Milissa Robb.

Six candidates are vying for three seats.

Lori Barnes, Rhoda MacLaughlin-Ramirez, Damon Mendoza and Lance Niles are expected to participate.

Responses will be timed by the chamber of commerce. Each set of candidates will have an hour to answer questions. Outside of their sessions, candidates are invited to meet with citizens one on one.

Any unanswered questions from the audience will be sent to the candidates after the event and Ark City Daily Bytes will publish those responses later.

The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 17. The general election will be held Nov. 7. Advanced voting begins Oct. 23. For more information about registration and voting, call (620) 441-4500.
