Arkansas City elementary students to participate in Body Venture exhibit

An innovative way to learn about the importance of good nutrition and physical fitness is coming this week to Ark City students. On April 4-5, the Body Venture exhibit will be set up at Arkansas City Middle School for USD 470 third-, fourth- and fifth-graders to experience. Students will have the opportunity to explore the human body with Power Panther, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service mascot, as their guide. The City of Arkansas City will conduct its annual Spring Cleanup Week refuse collection event April 9-13 throughout the city, in conjunction with normal pickup. Spring Cleanup Week will kick off with a special Spring Cleanup Day event starting at 8 a.m. April 7. Nebraska man arrested March 22 by ACPD in possession of stolen vehicle

The Arkansas City Police Department arrested three people March 22 in connection with a vehicle reported stolen out of Lincoln, Nebraska. Corey Nicholas Decker, 18, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of stolen property with a value of more than $1,000, as well as one misdemeanor count each of consumption of alcohol by a minor, possession of drug-use paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Texas pair arrested by ACPD on multiple possession counts after burglary

The Arkansas City Police Department arrested two Texas residents March 7 in connection with a vehicle burglary that led to the discovery of narcotics. John Eric Lamb, 35, and Tonya Lynn Swonger, 38, both of Wills Point, Texas, were arrested on suspicion of one felony count each of burglary of a motor vehicle, forgery, possession of methamphetamine and possession of opiates or narcotics. Raffle planned during Fifth Thursday Art Crawl to benefit fireworks fund

The first in a series of art crawls organized by the Arkansas City Area Chamber of Commerce will be held next week. Artist and musicians will display their talents from 4 to 7:30 p.m. March 29 at a series of local businesses as part of the quarterly Fifth Thursday Art and Music Crawl.
