Eric Kurtz, Union State Bank chief executive officer, recently announced the election of Mike Brand, co-founder of Brand Plumbing and a successful real estate developer, to the Union State Bank Board of Directors. Brand has served on the Union State Bank Advisory Board for the past year and said he is excited to join the USB Board of Directors.
“Union State Bank is fortunate to be able to bring the experience and expertise that Mike offers to our Board of Directors,” Kurtz said. “Mike is a quality individual and entrepreneur who will help us navigate the banking environment very well.”
Brand was born and raised in Colwich. He is the second oldest of six children born to Melvin and the late Rosella Brand.
Mike graduated from Andale High School in 1976 and attended Wichita State University before entering the plumbing business with his oldest brother, Marc, and his two younger brothers, Tony and Max.
This partnership quickly evolved into Brand Plumbing, an established business for more than 35 years. Mike Brand’s dedication to plumbing has resulted in several leadership roles, including 10 years on the Sedgwick County Plumbing Board.
In 2007, Mike and Marc Brand purchased Cooks Heating and Cooling, and together their experience and expertise have grown the company to more than 50 employees.
Mike Brand’s dedication to community also is reflected in his knowledge and success in real estate. Dating back to the mid-1980s, he has built and maintained more than 100 rental properties across Wichita.
In the last five years, Brand has led the development of three multi-million dollar apartment buildings. The most recent project includes an upscale apartment complex and retail development called Uptown Landing that soon will be located at the northeast corner of Hillside and Douglas.
Brand married his wife, Rene, in 2003. He has four children: Shawn, and wife, Megan; Erica, and husband, Chad; and his two youngest boys, Alex and Mikey.
Mike Brand also is a proud grandpa to George, with another grandson to arrive in September. He enjoys golfing, fishing, hunting and spending quality time at Table Rock Lake with his family.
