The Arkansas City Area Chamber of Commerce released a statement April 27, warning businesses against the possibility of fraudulent checks.
There have been reports of checks bearing the name “Chalen Tickel” that have been fraudulent, the chamber warns.
The checks in question are from a Union State Bank account. However, Union State says this account is not valid.
The chamber provided two ways for local businesses to determine if a check is fake:
- If the check is held up to the light and there is old information that has been erased from the check itself, new, false information might have been added.
- The check also might feel rough in the “customer info” area part of the check.
