Children’s activities are starting to pop up in several locations this December.

Storytime will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 1 and Dec. 8 at the Arkansas City Public Library, located at 120 E. Fifth Ave.

These events are free to the public.


December holiday paint party

U Paint It will be host to a fundraiser Dec. 3 for the Cowley County Renaissance Festival.

The fundraiser is a kids holiday paint party, which will cost $15 for each participant. Children from the ages of 7 to 12 are welcome.

Refreshments will be served at the event. There also will be an ugly sweater contest, with prizes for first, second and third place.

Each child will receive a small prize for entering into the contest. U Paint It is located at 220 S. Summit St.

Art-making project

The Arkansas City Area Arts Council will have an art-making project on Dec. 10.

The class will be held at Ark City Arts, located at 116 S. Summit St.

Children aged 6 to 18 are welcome to attend.

There is a $5 fee for the class.

Screech owl nesting boxes

Also on Dec. 10, there will be a tutorial on making screech owl nesting boxes at Chaplin Nature Center.

From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., attendees will learn how to construct nesting boxes at the center, located at 27814 27th Drive.

All supplies will be provided.


Organic products class

Kerry Schnackenberg, owner of Yoga Synergy, will also be host to a class on Dec. 10.

Starting at 10:30 a.m., 5- to 18-year-olds are welcomed to partake in the class, which will teach participants how to create all-organic products for themselves. This class will feature gingerbread lip polish and warm sugar cookie foot scrub.

Those who wish to attend must register by Dec. 3 with Winnette Headrick at (620) 222-2044. The cost of the class is $14.

Headrick is a certified herbalist, nutritional therapist, restorative wellness practitioner and aromatherapist.

Those who attend are urged to bring a container to carry their products home in, as well as a mixing bowl and spoon to participate in the activity.

This event will take place at Yoga Synergy, located at 110 S. Summit St.
