Did you know that there are more than 100 youths in Cowley County between the ages of 5 and 17 who have requested a one-to-one relationship with a volunteer?

bbbsPlease consider joining Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cowley County from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13 for the “Bigs for Christmas” party, sponsored by Power of the Purse. Current volunteers and youths have been invited to participate in the event, to be held at Hillcrest Lanes in Arkansas City.

Anyone 18 years old or older who has graduated from high school and is interested in spending an evening with a child in the BBBS program for this event can contact BBBS by Dec. 9 for an RSVP by emailing dclark@kansasbigs.org or calling (620) 221-7766.

Interested individuals will not be required to make a commitment beyond this event, but the organization hopes that through providing this opportunity, some of the youths can look forward to having a “Big” for Christmas and beyond.

Volunteers can choose to be in a site-based match for 30 minutes to an hour a week for at least a year; a plus match that meets for 30 minutes to an hour a week, both in and outside of school; or a community-based match for two to four hours a week.

Married couples and families also can participate in a match together and choose to be with either a Little Brother or Little Sister in the program.
