The City of Arkansas City will conduct its Citywide Pickup Week refuse collection event next week throughout the city, in conjunction with normal pickup.
The pickup week will be unaffected by anticipated heavy rainfall predicted through early next week.
However, a volunteer Fall Cleanup Day event starting at 8 a.m. Saturday probably will be impacted.
“We are not officially canceling Fall Cleanup Day tomorrow, due to a low risk of lightning and severe weather, but our confidence is high that we will experience rainfall through the entire morning,” said Public Information Officer Andrew Lawson. “We just don’t know how heavy it will be.”
Heavy rainfall cannot be ruled out Saturday morning, depending on how overnight storms develop.
Any volunteers who still wish to participate will be given assignments related to Pickup Week that can be accomplished despite any rainy conditions. Mowing and weed eating likely will not be practical.
“Please use your best judgment regarding the weather conditions,” Lawson said. “If it is drizzling, there are some things we can do. If it is absolutely pouring, we advise volunteers to just stay home.”
For questions or concerns about Fall Cleanup Day, please call Lawson at (620) 441-4415 or send him an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Electronic waste recycling still will be offered Saturday. The drop-off location is being moved to the south side of the 100 block of West Central Avenue, in front of the 31st Century Techsupport office.
