The Arkansas City Police Department will hold Coffee with a Cop next week.

The event will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. March 29 at the McAtee Dining Center, located at 206 S. Fourth St. on the Cowley College campus.

Black coffee will be provided free of charge. Cowley College Public Safety and Student Patrol are listed as co-hosts.

Coffee with a Cop is an opportunity for community members to visit with employees of the police department in a safe, comfortable environment, free of distractions. This function does not involve speeches or agendas.

The public is welcome to come meet police officers and talk about what is important to them.

Coffee with a Cop is a national movement to enhance the relationship between the police, the public and the business community.

The premise is very simple in that there are no agendas or speeches — it is just to have department employees talking with citizens in a relaxed, safe environment.

These types of social interactions happen every day, but a structured time and place allows for community outreach through media outlets and affords several different business locations opportunities to host.
