The Arkansas City Community Band will hold the third concert of its 145th season at 7:30 p.m. June 16 under the Wilson Park rotunda.

The concert is free Community Bandand open to the public. Several park benches are available, but concert-goers may wish to bring their own lawn chairs for comfort.

The band will present a wide variety of musical selections this week, including:

  • a fun trombone feature, “Trombonanza”
  • the Gershwin classic “Summertime”
  • a beautiful setting of “Jesus Loves Me” called “A Childhood Hymn”
  • a medley from the John Wayne movie, “The Cowboys”
  • an arrangement of “Africa” by the rock band Toto
  • “Happy,” from the movie “Despicable Me 2”

This week, the concert will feature a visit by the Arkansas City Police Department’s K-9, Lee, and the Arkansas City Fire-EMS Department’s antique fire truck.

The two groups will promote the “Battle of the Badges,” a benefit for local families. Additionally, the City of Arkansas City will provide refreshments for all of those in attendance.

Band members include: Abelardo Aragon, Anthony Cruz and Zach Wilson, alto saxophone; Natalia Galinda, Sara Mort and Devon Oakley, tenor saxophone; Lathander Flanigan and Josh Montgomery, bari saxophone; David Bartlett, oboe; Kylie Arthur, Addison Barg, Ruby Camacho, Melinda Current and Avery Givens, flute; Chloe Curl, Elyssa Day, Maggie Krout, Brylee Thiel and Stephanie VanGilder, clarinet; Taylar Karnes and Taryn Stone, French horn; Josh Fleig, David Griffitt, Alyssa Looney, Evan Lyman, Jeff McPherson, Kaya Miers, Alex Soto and Charlotte Wilson, trumpet; Kate Austin, Alexander Cruz, Nathaniel Kessinger, Andrew Lawson and Melody Parman, trombone; Geoffery Waggoner and Qi Tao, euphonium; Kalen Oaklay, Reno Ratcliff, Joshua Swartzell and Josh Waldorf, tuba; and Zane Butler, Hayes Cannon, Ross Ferris, Ryan Hizey and Julie Ross, percussion.
