WICHITA — The Sing It! Festival, hosted by Friends University, will be from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 9.

The festival will bring together choirs from six Kansas high schools — Buhler, Chaparral, Goddard, Macksville, Nickerson and Rose Hill — along with choirs from Cowley and Dodge City community colleges, and groups from Friends University.

The Cowley College Concert Choir will perform “The Eyes of All Wait Upon Thee,” by Jean Berger, and “Wanting Memories,” by Ysaye Barnwell.

The mass festival choir is under the direction of Francisco Nuñez, artistic director and founder of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, and conductor of the University Glee Club of New York City.

The mass choir will perform “Shout Glory!” by Byron J. Smith, a selection that will be featured later in February by the Kansas All-State Choir when it performs at the Kansas Music Educators Association In-Service Workshop in Wichita, and an original composition by Nuñez, “Es Tu Tiempo.”

In addition, each choir will receive an individual clinic with Nuñez and perform two selections of their own in the night concert, prior to the mass choir performance.

Along with the choral clinics, each group will receive a campus tour of Friends, and participate in a vocal jazz clinic and a vocal master class. Each school will provide two students for the master class.

Cowley students participating in this activity are Jennifer Guzman and Allie Lawrence.
