The Cowley College music department will hold its first concert for the 2017-18 season at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Robert Brown Theatre.
The concert choir, CC Singers, concert band and jazz band all will perform as part of the program.
The Cowley College bands will begin with a fun romp through jazz standards and the movies.
With the jazz band playing tunes such as “Tuxedo Junction,” “When I Fall in Love” and “Rock Around the Clock,” coupled with the concert band performing “Selections from ‘Mary Poppins,’” “‘Captain America’ March” and the mysterious “Witching Hour,” there is sure to be something that everyone will enjoy. Meanwhile, the concert choir will present:
- an arrangement of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by Tim Sharp, executive director of the American Choral Directors association;
- “Carpenters of God,” an original text and choral setting by Vijay Singh, professor of music at Central Washington University;
- a setting of “Set Me as a Seal,” by Rene Clausen, professor of music at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota;
- a setting of a portion of Walt Whitman’s poem “A Song of Joys,” titled “A Jubilant Song,” by native Kansas composer John Leavitt.
The CC Singers will perform an arrangement of “When I Fall in Love,” by Kirby Shaw, and an arrangement of the Beatles hit, “In My Life,” by Steve Zegree.
There is no cost to attend the concert.
