Arkansas City soon will be host to the fourth biannual Cowley’s Outdoor Market at Wilson Park, jointly hosted by 1025 The River and the Arkansas City Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Kelly Dillner and Suvanah Perdue, event coordinators and client promotion representatives at 1025 The River, said they are excited about the event.

It will last from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 23, in conjunction with the Last Run Car Show. Admission to the market is free to the public.

There will be shuttle drop-off points at the Outdoor Market in Wilson Park and the Last Run Car Show at Paris Park.

The shuttles will transport people to and from each event at no cost. They are made possible through the sponsorship of the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Plans already are in the works for a fifth Outdoor Market on April 28, 2018.

Cowley’s Outdoor Market history

The practice of hosting an outdoor market twice a year started with brainstorming the idea of bringing the citywide garage sale into one central area.

But Purdue and Dillner realized early that wasn’t quite what they wanted to do, so the idea morphed into the current Cowley’s Outdoor Market setup.

The event continues to grow. The first market was held in 2016 and it saw around 30 vendors from across the state gather in Wilson Park.

“We have 34 vendors and counting (for this market),” Dillner said. They include Bullet Bling, Shellnanigan’s, Wild Ivy Natural Products, Hypertufa Chicks, Young Living, Tupperware by Amy Biby, Billy Sims BBQ, D&T Tacos, Ice Shack, Heavenly Sweets, and many more direct sales and vintage vendors.

Featured additions

This Cowley’s Outdoor Market will have added live entertainment, featuring local musician Tim Durham, from noon to 1 p.m.

Vendors in attendance will sell jewelry, art, vintage furniture pieces, homemade soaps and many other unique items.

“Make sure to visit the Kidz Korner. We have teamed up with the the Ark City Public Library, where there will be a free bouncy house and games for the little ones,” Dillner said.

Anyone interested in having a booth at the market may email Dillner or Perdue at, or call (620) 442-1102 for vendor information.
