For those who make the statement that there is nothing to do in Arkansas City, check out this week’s lineup of events!
Friday, June 3 — PrairieFest Productions will kick off the day with activities in Wilson Park. There will be a children’s musical with a Disney theme at 11 a.m. at the gazebo. Masks and costumes will be provided for the children who participate. Immediately following the musical, there will be an opportunity for all to take part in a community art project. This portion of the day will be from noon to 3 p.m. The gates will open and food vendors will begin serving at 5 p.m. for the concert in the park, “America’s Heartbeat.” Tickets are available at the gate — $10 for adults and $6 for those younger than 18.
Saturday, June 4 — The 11th annual Sgt. Jerry Mills Jr. Fishing Derby will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Veterans Memorial Lake. This event is for those aged 5 to 15 and the cost is $5. The day will include a competition for the largest fish caught and the team with the most fish, and all first-time fishers will be given a fishing pole.
Saturday, June 4 — This is also CHARG’s Pink Heals Survivor Day. Wilson Park will be full of vendors, food and the pink fire truck. Come out and honor a loved one who has fought cancer by signing the truck. This will be a great celebration of hope and love.
Tuesday, June 7 — “Swim on the River” will take place at the Paris Park Pool, 600 W. Fifth Ave. All those with a free ticket will be allowed to swim from 1 to 7 p.m. Stop by 1025 The River or the Arkansas City Area Chamber of Commerce to get your free ticket.
I will update you each Wednesday on what you have to look forward to in our great community. If you would like to have more information on any event listed, please contact me at (620) 441-0230.
