Local girl DeLaney Colquhoun has become a fashion designer at the age of 11.
“I was playing around with a purse that they gave me for a photo shoot,” she said. “It had fringe on it.”
The photos were taken by DeLaney’s mother, Dixie, for Holy Cow Couture.
DeLaney was intrigued by a pattern the fringe made and her mother suggested she find out if she could send designs to the company.
“I freehand-drew (a design),” DeLaney said.
Colquhoun later sent the design, along with others, to Holy Cow Couture.
The company specializes in high-end, Southwestern-styled clothing and accessories.
It is located at 135 S. Main St. in the historic district of Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Colquhoun was familiar with the company prior to sending the designs, as she frequently watches the online auctions put on by Holy Cow Couture.
One of the employees messaged Colquhoun and asked if she would be watching the auction.
It wasn’t until the auction went live that the family knew DeLaney’s design had been used to create a purse.
The purse DeLaney designed is a one-of-a-kind item that sold for more than its retail value.
She said the price the purse won during the auction sold for $400.
“They’re very impressed with her,” said Dixie Colquhoun.
DeLaney is working on more designs, too.
“I have a backpack and a purse done, and I am working on a new design,” DeLaney said.
After the auction was over, Colquhoun took DeLaney to see the purse she had designed.
“We took a trip to Stillwater (on June 3) to deliver cookies to … the wonderful staff at Holy Cow, and to get pics of DeLaney’s drawing and the awesome purse they designed from it,” Colquhoun said.
The boutique can be visited from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
