The Dexter BBQ 5K and 2-Mile Fun Run will begin at 7:30 a.m. July 8.
This event has many numerous local sponsors that help to make it happen.
It is facilitated and run by Cowley County Emergency Management volunteer groups, and the funds raised are used to support those groups.
This is one of the least expensive races in the area and every participant receives something for his or her entry fee.
The Dexter BBQ is an annual event. Participants can run, jog or walk either distance they choose.
In addition to many sponsors, Winfield Fire-EMS Department reserves will be on site, as will a bicycle patrol made up of personnel from the Arkansas City Police Department, Cowley County Emergency Communications, the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office and the Winfield Police Department. They all will be off-duty officers, there to aid participants and help to ensure a smooth event.
The City-Cowley County Health Department volunteers by running the hydration station.
Registration is open now and can be found at www.cowleycounty.org/dexter-fun-run.
Those with questions can call (620) 221-0470 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
After the race, there will be kids games and activities, a sand volleyball tournament, and a parade.
Later that day, there are the barbecue and watermelon feed, pie auction, and live entertainment.
