Angie Dicken weaves a fascinating tale in My Heart Belongs in Castle Gate, Utah: Leanna’s Choice, the newest installment in the My Heart Belongs series from Barbour Publishing.
I was unfamiliar with both this series and the author when I was contacted regarding this book.
However, I was intrigued by the idea of a novel set in a turn-of-the-century mining town.
What I discovered was a sweet tale of second chances amid harsh circumstances.
Coal mining was not a glamorous job and the time was full of prejudice for those who were different from the miners.
Leanne McKee is a recently widowed school teacher in Castle Gate. She is battling disappointments and longs to leave.
Alex Pappas is a Greek immigrant who works in the mines. He is dealing with horrible working conditions, prejudice of his heritage and ghosts from his past.
Leanna and Alex both are interesting characters. I really enjoyed watching as the relationship unfolded between them, as well as the relationship she developed with his family.
Dicken also has created enjoyable secondary characters who helped to round out the story.
Leanna’s Choice has a strong message of faith woven throughout the tale.
This is a well-written story that is perfect for fans of inspirational and historical fiction.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel. However, all opinions are my own.
