Arkansas City soon will be home to a Donut Palace, according to plans that have been submitted to the City of Arkansas City.
It will be located on a property owned by Larry Loper, of Longview, Texas. The property is 1520 N. Summit St., directly north of Sonic Drive-In.
Prior to 2016, this was the location of a Rent-A-Center that caught fire in 2015.
The building was later demolished, though the Arkansas City Fire-EMS Department was able to save the structure.
“(There will be) a 1,765-square-foot building (constructed) with a drive-through,” said Principal Planner Josh White. He also said the driveway for the establishment will be located at the northwest end of the property, to provide “maximum separation from the Sonic drive.”
The general contractor working on the project is Tom Lowry, of Oxford-based Lowry Builders.
“Lowry Builders has done a number of residential and commercial jobs around Ark City, most notably the duplexes in the 1300 blocks of North 13th and 14th streets,” White said. “I believe there will be a separate operator once the building is complete.”
The property in question also was considered by Credo Coffee as a possible location before it chose the location at 1507 N. Summit St.
