Cowley County Emergency Management (CCEM) volunteers will be host a 5K run and 2-mile walk as part of the annual Dexter BBQ.

The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. July 14. This is the sixth year that CCEM has hosted the run and walk.

“The volunteers enjoy sponsoring a healthy community event open to everyone — practicing their event management skills in a controlled environment,” states a release from CCEM Director Brian Stone.

“(They’re) doing something different than most of their volunteer assignments and trainings — and they earn funds to be used toward the purchase of equipment and training.”

Participants will receive a medal and T-shirt if they pre-register by June 28. There is a $20 early-bird registration fee.

After that date, the fee will increase to $25 and there will be no guaranteed shirt or medal.

First-, second-, and third-place medals will be given to the top finishers in the men’s and women’s divisions.

This year, the race will be chip-timed for those who are attempting to set a new personal record.
