Candidates must possess a Kansas Certified Paramedic license and CPR certification at the time of employment.

Recruitment efforts for ACFD are likely to begin at Arkansas City High School in coming years, according to Fire Chief Bobby Wolfe.

“It is a long-term goal,” he said in an interview Thursday/Jan. 12.

In order to be hired by the department, candidates must meet certain educational requirements, including the EMT and Firefighter 1 classes.

Because Cowley College recently added a fire science program, recruitment out of ACHS will be more feasible in the future because students can take some of their college classes while still attending the high school.

Wolfe said it is hard to recruit against larger cites, but there is benefit in recruiting the youth of Ark City.

For students who are interested in working in the public service industry, the department can show them what the job entails by demonstrating firsthand some of the duties carried out by the department.
