Four Arkansas City High School seniors have been selected to participate in the first-ever K-State ALL STAR Marching Band on Sept. 9.
The four students — Hayes Cannon, Abbey Legleiter, Blake Legleiter and Justin Phillips — were selected from top band students from around the state.
“We have many outstanding students in our band program, so it was extremely hard for me to be able to nominate only four students, expecting only two to be selected,” said ACHS band director Chris VanGilder. “It is a great honor that all four were selected.
“The new ALL STAR Marching Band event will be a tremendous opportunity for these students to experience the thrill of a K-State game day as only the band can. Additionally, it will allow them to achieve greater success in a more educational and musically rewarding format.”
The K-State ALL STAR Marching Band will perform the first solo selection (both music and drill) at halftime of the Charlotte game.
Then they will be joined by the Kansas State University Marching Band for a selection together (both music and drill).
Finally, the K-State Alumni Band will join the more than 500 musicians already on the field for three stand-still musical selections.
