The annual Bobby Estus Memorial Bike Ride will experience its fourth year this Memorial Day weekend.

“We started this fundraiser on Memorial (Day) weekend 2015 to honor Bobby and to raise money to buy bicycles for children of Arkansas City for Christmas,” said event organizer Jill Hunter.

“This annual event, with the help of sponsors and donors, has purchased over 100 bicycles for local children.”

The ride will begin at 9:30 a.m. May 26 in Paris Park and participants will ride or walk on the hike-bike trail to Veterans Memorial Lake.

“We normally start the ride around 9:30 a.m. and meet at the Lions Club shelter for hamburgers, chips, and cookies for lunch,” Hunter said.

The bike ride is a free family event, open to all who wish to participate. “We ask that you do not bring pets due to the interference with the participants,” she added.

“Participants are encouraged to get sponsors to donate to the cause. Sponsors are also a big help to host this event,” Hunter said.

To help to sponsor the event, make checks payable to “Bobby Estus Memorial Bike Ride” and mail them to Hunter at 526 N. Summit St.
