A fundraiser to benefit the Brantley and Shaw families has been scheduled for June 10.
From 7 to 10 p.m., all community members are welcomed to join in at the Arkansas City High School Tennis Complex, located at 1200 W. Radio Lane.
Event organizers will collect free-will donations, including gift cards for essentials such as groceries and gas.
“As many of you know, former ACHS head basketball coach and current assistant tennis coach Anthony Brantley passed away Saturday,” said one of the organizers, Lisa Klaassen.
“He leaves behind his wife, Belena, and three middle school-aged children.”
Anthony Brantley suffered a “heart episode” on May 31 and was hospitalized in Wichita, but did not recover.
He had helped to lead both the Bulldogs and Bullpups tennis teams for the past four years.
“In addition, Brian Shaw, head tennis coach at Winfield, is battling colon cancer, with a long recovery ahead,” Klaassen said.
“His wife, Kristi, works at Cowley College and is the head of the Advanced All-Starz cheer team, and they have two daughters, Halston and Hadlea.”
Brian Shaw was a state champion doubles player for ACHS and currently coaches the Winfield High School teams.
