The academy was started in 2013 by Henderson and teaches students not only basketball, but also life lessons.
Winter tryouts are on Nov. 12. More information can be found at www.facebook.com/events/1153150604771874/?ti=cl.
“I had coached in the public schools for awhile, but then I went through a stretch of not coaching because of not being a certified teacher,” Henderson said. “That was difficult for me because basketball and working with our youth are passions of mine.”
Henderson uses Youth Hoops Academy to connect with the youths who attend so he can talk to them about “the things that matter the most.”
Those include family, “our relationship with God, the way we treat people and how helpful we are,” he said.
The academy offers individual workouts, starting at $25 per 45-minute session. It also offers group workouts at $15 per child.
“Our workouts consist of mentoring and skills development in a 1-on-1 or group setting,” Henderson said. “We offer traveling teams and camps throughout the year as well.”
