The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of human remains south of Arkansas City, according to a news release.
Deputies were dispatched about 10 a.m. July 29 for a report of found remains at a location in the 7000 block of 312th Road.
The identity of the person and the cause of death are not known at this time, said Sheriff David Falletti, and more will be known after an autopsy July 31.
The autopsy will be conducted at the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Center in Wichita.
The sheriff’s office is being assisted in its investigation by the Arkansas City Police Department, Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Kansas Highway Patrol and Sumner County Sheriff’s Office, Falletti said.
UPDATE (July 31): An autopsy was performed on the body that was located July 29, southeast of Arkansas City.
The official autopsy report still is not complete, according to Sheriff David Falletti, but the preliminary findings show no trauma located on the body.
The unidentified body is a male who is small of stature and there were no identifiable markings on his body.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation.
