Cowley County Humane Society (CCHS) is having a New Year’s adoption special for both cats and dogs.
Each dog adoption will be $20.17 with a donation of new or used bedding — including towels, bed sheets or anything else a dog can sleep on — and dish soap. The cats will be available for $0.17 each, with a donation of new or used bedding and dish soap.
All of the adoptable animals are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and vetted. Each comes with a small bag of food and four weeks of pet insurance. Adoptable animals can be seen at www.cowleycountyhumanesociety.org.
If an animal is listed as being in foster care, the shelter can be contacted and arrangements made to meet that animal at the shelter.
Cat adoptions are free during the entire month of June with the donation of new or used bedding, paper towels and cat toys.
CCHS takes in and cares for 2,500 animals every year.
Less than one-third of its funding comes from contracts with Arkansas City and Winfield for taking in and caring for the cities’ stray animals.
CCHS also provides the citizens of both cities with a place to take stray and unwanted animals.
It receives some money from Cowley County for providing the same services.
CCHS’ hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays, from 12 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
It is closed on Sundays and holidays.
