Arkansas City Area Chamber of Commerce Director Kammy Downs has resigned her position with the chamber, effective at the end of July.
“So many good things have happened in our life here in Ark City!” Downs said in a Facebook post July 26.
“It is with a sad heart that I am announcing to my wonderful friends and family our move to Kansas City.”
Downs gave her notice to the chamber’s executive board of directors and will wrap up her time at the chamber next week.
She served for almost two years at the Ark City chamber after taking over the position from Sydney Bland in September 2016.
Prior to that, Downs had served for two years as arts director at Ark City Arts after acquiring 18 years of experience as an art teacher in Kansas and California.
Downs said she and her husband are planning to live closer to one of their daughters in Kansas City, but will return for visits to Arkansas City.
“I’ll be teaching art full time between two schools,” she said in an interview July 26.
“One is a Montessori school and the other (is) an inner-city school. I have experience at Montessori. The main pull is one of our daughters is setting up her chiropractic practice there next year and the arts community there is important to me.”
All community members are invited to attend a come-and-go farewell ceremony for Downs from 3 to 5 p.m. July 31 at the chamber office.
The chamber executive board currently is taking inquiries and résumés from anyone interested in serving as the new chief executive officer.
