Arkansas City native Hannah Klaassen, the currently reigning Miss Kansas, is working through her last week of competition at the Miss America pageant.
This week has been full of non-televised preliminaries, including interviews and performances.
Klaassen and a few select individuals showing support for her have been in Atlantic City, New Jersey, during this time.
She was named first runner-up for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Miracle Maker Award after she raised $25,839 for the hospitals and for Miss America scholarships.
All week, local businesses and schools have been showing their support online and at their physical locations.
Arkansas City High School even recorded a short video for Klaassen that was posted on social media.
Her supporters will have the opportunity to see the televised portion of the competition at 8 p.m. Sept. 9 on ABC.
There also will be a watch party at Shindigs Bar and Grill in Winfield.
“Hannah is our Miss Kansas and will be representing Kansas this Sunday evening in the Miss America pageant,” states a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page. “Come to Shindigs’ Miss America Watch Party, Sunday evening.”
The Shindigs watch party will start at 6 p.m. The restaurant is located at 500 Main St.
