Arkansas City Middle School teacher Rachel Lankton has returned home after receiving treatment for an unexpected illness.

The eighth-grade science teacher is recovering from a surgery to remove a brain tumor last month.

There will be a bingo fundraiser to assist with Lankton’s medical expenses Jan. 22 at Baden Square, located at 1401 E. Sixth Ave. in Winfield.

The doors will open at 1:30 p.m. and the event begins at 2 p.m.

Admission to the event is $10 and there will be 10 rounds of bingo — three games per round.

Lankton was diagnosed with the tumor after complaining about her ears being plugged and seeking medical care, according to a co-worker.

The tumor was removed Dec. 14, 2016, at University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.

For those that would like to donate, but cannot attend the bingo event, the family has asked for funds to be sent to Rachel Lankton, c/o Teresa Russell, 5941 56th Drive, Udall, KS 67146.

The family also has created a GoFundMe campaign to help with some of the unanticipated costs this situation has created.

Donations to this fund will be used for medical and travel expenses. The GoFundMe page can be found at www.gofundme.com/rachellankton.

The page shows a $20,000 goal, but in the first month, donations have totaled $4,950.
