Cowley County Sheriff’s Office

  • Deputies stopped a vehicle in the area of 19th Avenue and Andrews Street in Winfield for a traffic violation. The driver, Jessica Nichole Saenz, 30, of Winfield, was arrested on suspicion of driving with a canceled or suspended driver’s license, no proof of insurance and illegal registration. She was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail. Saenz since has posted bond and been released.
  • Deputies transported a prisoner for the Arkansas City Police Department to the Cowley County Jail.
  • Deputies took a report regarding a reported sexual assault that occurred approximately a year ago in the county. A follow-up investigation was to occur.
  • Deputies were contacted by a person at the Cowley County Courthouse regarding a warrant for the caller’s brother.
  • Deputies were dispatched to the 15000 block of 152nd Road for a report of criminal damage to property regarding a fence that had been driven through. Extra patrol was requested.
  • Deputies stopped to assist a motorist in the 2000 block of the U.S. 77 bypass. The vehicle was left legally parked overnight.
  • Deputies were dispatched to the 19000 block of 251st Road for a report of burglary and attempted theft. The caller caught two white males on his property and they took off running, entered a white Ford F-150 and fled the area. The suspects had entered the residence and broken a window on a trailer. Nothing was missing, but two lawn chairs had been placed outside in the yard before the suspects were interrupted.
  • Deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of East Main Street in Cambridge for a burglary in progress. The suspects already had left, claiming that the victim had given them permission to be there. The caller had checked with the property owner and she had not given anyone permission to be there. Two shoe boxes filled with trading cards were missing. The loss was estimated at $20. A tag number was obtained and the vehicle was described as a red Dodge Challenger. The information was passed on to the Elk County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was not located in Cowley County and the investigation is ongoing.
  • Deputies were dispatched to the 21000 block of 85th Road for an ongoing issue with a landlord, former tenants and property.
  • Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of North Main Street in Burden. The caller called back and said the alarm had been set off accidentally.
  • Deputies were dispatched to the 800 block of Millington Street in Winfield for a report of a one-vehicle, non-injury, car-deer accident that had occurred in the 7000 block of U.S. 77.
  • Deputies were dispatched to the 14000 block of 231st Road for a report of suspicious activity involving a car in the area. Extra patrol was requested.
  • Deputies checked a pedestrian east of Burden on U.S. 160.
