Graves Drug in Arkansas City will be host this week to two book signings for the third installment of “The Scaries” series, written by Ark City native Layne Moore.
The two signings will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 28 and from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 29.
Graves has held book signings for Moore in the past, after the first two editions of the series were released.
“We are thrilled to welcome Layne Moore back for the signing of his third book in ‘The Scaries’ series,” states a post on Graves’ Facebook page.
The stories are fictional, but Moore uses Arkansas City as the setting for the books.
The action takes place at local landmarks such as Wilson Park and Spooky Hollow.
“Web of Wicked” is about a witch who begins to “close in on the prey it seeks, while secrets from the past become more clear. Arkansas City residents Ray Davis, David Braysden and Ashleigh Graves are frantic to discover how soon the indelible witch will destroy everything in its path.”
“You really need to start with the first (book),” said author Layne Moore. “It sets up the conflict that becomes the basis for the other books. And it just grows, with each chapter becoming more complicated.”
Moore has lived in the Lawrence area for more than 15 years, but he prefers to use the Arkansas City area as the setting for his books.
“There’s a nostalgia there for me in that it’s so familiar,” Moore said. “I have all these memories about Arkalalah, Spooksville and Spooky Hollow, and I wanted to write about those things. It’s like a scary movie, though. You can let it scare you for a while, but in the end, it’s all just made up.”
“The Scaries” and its sequel, “The Scaries: A Hollow’s Revival” are available online at www.thescaries.net.
Readers may purchase an autographed copy through the site or buy an unsigned copy prior to the signing at Graves Drug in Arkansas City.
