Legacy Regional Community Foundation announced a request for proposals as part of an initiative to address children’s health in January.

The deadline for local grant money is approaching quickly. Eligible applicants may apply for a 12-month grant of up to $10,000.

The foundation is committed to creating a stronger future for the area by building endowments, providing informed leadership and connecting donors to the critical needs of the region. This commitment includes the health of children.

Cowley County currently is ranked the 84th-healthiest county in Kansas. Additionally, access to exercise in Cowley County is rated at 50 percent, versus the state average of 76 percent.

Through this requests for proposals, Legacy Regional Community Foundation will provide funding to an organization to plan and implement countywide programming that actively promotes children and families becoming more physically active in order to address the rising rate of obesity in the region.

Eligible applicants must be an established nonprofit countywide organization, or a public-private partnership or coalition that includes an established nonprofit organization willing to assume fiduciary responsibility for the grant funds.

Read the Request for Proposals 2017 document found on the Legacy Foundation website, located at www.legacyregionalfoundation.org, for details regarding the grant and application process. All applications must be submitted by March 30.

Questions about the application process should be directed to Yazmin Wood, executive director, at (620) 221-7224 or yazmin.legacy@yahoo.com.
