Marc Anthony “Coco” Tapia, 53, of Winfield, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield.

Interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winfield.

The family greeted friends from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Shelley Family Funeral Home in Winfield.

Marc was born Dec. 30, 1963, in Wellington, to Pedro Ascencion Tapia Sr. and Julia (Hernandez) Tapia.

He attended both Winfield and Wellington schools, and graduated from Wellington High School in 1982.

Marc was united in marriage to Tracy Minor on June 25, 1994, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield.

Marc worked for the City of Arkansas City for six years and most recently worked for the street department. Prior to working for the city, he worked at Calmar Industries for 12 years.

“Coco” never met a stranger and he made new friends wherever he went. He enjoyed lifting at the rec center and going to the VFW, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Catholic Church.

Marc enjoyed watching KU basketball and the Washington Redskins, but more than that, he loved going to his sons’ games and family sporting events.

“Coco” loved family and always wanted to put his arm around everyone.

Marc is survived by his wife, Tracy Tapia; sons, Caleb Tapia and Austin Tapia; sister, Sharon Sinklair, and husband, Paul; brother, Pete Tapia; and nephews, Pete Tapia III and Jamie Cassaday.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions in Marc’s name may be made to the Winfield Isle of Lights. Contributions may be made in care of Shelley Family Funeral Home of Winfield.
