Jocelyn Green’s “The Mark of the King” is a beautifully written historical drama.
Green handles the pacing brilliantly — the story pulls you along because you just have to know what happens next.
Twists abound in the novel’s plot and I can tell they were well thought out, not just put there for shock value.
All of these are good reasons to read “The Mark of the King.” On top of that, it is set in a period I don’t think I’ve ever read about before in a work of fiction.
Green marvelously brings to life this bygone time and place with such detail!
While this book is a work of Christian fiction, it is in no way a “light” read.
She deals with some tough topics throughout the novel.
There is reason that Julianne ends up having to make the decision that spurs the rest of the story.
This novel deals with life as a colonist in a untamed America.
It is filled with betrayal, loss and desperate circumstances — however, there also is hope.
It is that hope that lights the way for the main character and the reader, no matter what circumstances the characters find themselves facing.
Julianne creates such an example of faith, in times that would cause most to despair, that I am glad to have met her — to have read her story.
While this is the first book I’ve read by Green, I certainly hope it won’t be the last.
I gave “The Mark of the King” five out of five stars — it more than deserves it.
Disclaimer: I was provided a free copy of this book. However, all opinions are my own.
