McDonald’s Sewing and Vacuum will be host to several beginner-friendly and advanced sewing classes this weekend.

Dalene McDonald will teach most of the classes, but one will be instructed by Ramona Dutton.

Friday classes at McDonald’s

Dutton will teach the “Beginning Sewists” class at 10 a.m. Feb. 17.

There is one spot left in this class, which is designed to help sewing novices to learn the basics of sewing.

“This is the first in a series of beginner-friendly classes for grownups,” McDonald said. “Sewing and upcycling are hot in the (Do It Yourself) and cosplay movements. Some of the projects in this series will involve upcycling.”

Today, attendees will make a pillow. They must bring with them scissors, pins and a seam ripper. The class has a fee of $20.

At 2 p.m. today, McDonald will teach “Foot of the Month,” a class that will teach sewing enthusiasts how to use alternative sewing machine feet.

Each month, attendees will learn how to use a new foot by creating a quilting block.

The fee for this class is $29. Call (620) 441-0939 for more information.

“We are completely open for Viking Foot of the Month, Block 1,” McDonald said.

Saturday classes at McDonald’s

The Saturday class offerings will be a bit different.

“‘Viking Foot of the Month, Block 2’ is a continuation, though someone could get a late start, and ‘Premier+ Intro’ is only for users who have that specific embroidery software from us,” McDonald said.

“Viking Foot of the Month, Block 2” will begin at 10 a.m. Feb. 18. The fee is $20.

“Premier+ Intro” will begin at 2 p.m.

The standard fee for this class is $20, but it will be waived for those who purchase the Premier+ software from McDonald’s Sewing and Vacuum.

McDonald’s Sewing and Vacuum is now located at 222 S. Summit St.
