A National Day of Prayer service will be held next week under the Wilson Park rotunda.
The Arkansas City Ministerial Alliance invites the community to attend the prayer service, which will begin at noon May 4.
After the service, lunch will be available.
This year will mark the 66th annual National Day of Prayer (NDOP) event.
NDOP was established in 1952, when President Harry Truman signed it into law.
President Ronald Reagan amended the law in 1988 to designate the day NDOP is recognized.
This amendment states “The President shall issue each year a proclamation designating the first Thursday in May as a National Day of Prayer, on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals.”
