Cowley’s Outdoor Market is returning to Wilson Park on Sept. 24.
From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., more than 30 vendors will set up at the park to sell their wares.
Admission to this event, which is hosted by 1025 The River and the Arkansas City Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), is free.
Kelly Dillner and Suvanah Perdue, event coordinators and client promotion representatives at 1025 The River, intentionally set the date for the outdoor market to be during Last Run Car Show weekend.
There will be shuttle drop-off points at the outdoor market and the car show in Paris Park to take people to and from each event at no cost, made possible by the CVB.
“We have 34 vendors and counting,” Perdue said, “(including) Bullet Bling, Bee’tween Friends, Moxie’s Soap Box, Damsel in Defense, Rusty Cowbell, Young Living, Velata, Stagecoach BBQ, Ice Shack, Usborne Books, Kayla Dykes, and many more direct sales and vintage vendors.”
Several vendors are signed up to sell jewelry, art, vintage pieces and many unique homemade items.
Each vendor will provide a giveaway item to be raffled off during the market. There also will be a contest for re-purposed or refurbished items.
There is a $10 entry fee, but entrants do not need to have a booth.
“This event is going to take place the fourth Saturday in September and April each year,” Dillner said. “We have added a castle bounce house free for the little ones to enjoy.”
Also, food vendors will be on site throughout the day.
Shoppers can enjoy bratwurst and pulled pork sandwiches from Stagecoach, and flavored shaved ice from the Ice Shack.
The food vendors will stay that night to serve food during the Car Show concert, performed by Jan Hatfield’s band, Theorosa’s Bridge. A dance later that night at Wilson Park is being put on by the CVB.
Plans already are in the works for a third outdoor market on April 22, 2017.
The idea of hosting an outdoor market started with the brainstorming of bringing the citywide garage sale into one area.
But the duo realized early on that it wasn’t quite what they wanted to do, so the idea morphed into Cowley’s Outdoor Market.
The first event was a big success, and Dillner and Perdue still are adding vendors for the upcoming market.
Anyone interested in having a booth at the market may email them at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (620) 442-1102 for vendor information.
