PONCA CITY, Okla. — The Ponca Playhouse will be host to a concert at 7 p.m. Feb. 14. It will include many romantic songs from the ’40s and ’50s.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. for complimentary dance lessons — accompanied by authentic music — and the concert will begin at 7 p.m. A running time of 90 minutes is estimated, including the interlude, so the event should end around 8:30 p.m.
Meghann Borum, Shelby Cargill, Dalton Looper, Sara Palmer and Kay Smith will sing, and David Wilkie will accompany them on piano. Wilkie is an amazing jazz pianist and it’s worth the price of admission just to hear him play!
From “They Can’t Take That Away from Me” and “At Last” to “Fly Me to the Moon,” the music will be nostalgic, romantic and lush. There also will be an interlude of recorded dance music from favorites such as Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Harry James to get participants’ toes tapping.
“You don’t want to miss this exclusive event!” said event organizer Meghann Borum. “Join us to dance the night away with your valentine amid the soft candlelight and romantic music.”
The audience will be seated at intimate tables with candlelight, and invited to dance throughout the show and interlude.
A catered dessert will be served, including a choice of tiramisu, “Crazy Love Chocolate Cake” or rainbow cheesecake, as well as coffee, soda or water. Wine and beer also will be available, but are not included in the ticket price.
Seats are limited and reservations can be made by calling the Ponca Playhouse at (580) 765-5360 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday/Feb. 13 or Tuesday/Feb. 14.
Seating will be open, so arrive early for the best spot. Tickets are $20 per person, with the concert, dancing, dessert and coffee or soda included. All proceeds will go to support upcoming season productions at the Ponca Playhouse.
