Cowley College volleyball fans know all about Cameryn Campbell. Now, others will get to learn more about the talented sophomore when she graces the Robert Brown Theatre stage as one of five finalists for Queen Alalah LXXXVII. Coronation is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 26 in the Robert Brown Theatre.
Campbell, who is from Jefferson City, MO, is the daughter of Jason and Leshia Hirschvogel, and granddaughter of Alice Bounds of Jefferson City, MO. She has three sisters, Hannah Hirschvogel, Amber Dampf, and Jessica Hinton, and a younger brother, Hayden.
At Jefferson City High School, she was involved in volleyball, yearbook, and the Student Council. Thanks to her athletic prowess, she was recruited to play volleyball at Cowley.
As a freshman, she helped the Cowley volleyball team to a 40-7 record, a District N Championship, a conference runner-up finish, and a fifth place finish at the NJCAA national tournament.
As a sophomore, she has twice been named the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division Defensive Player of the Week while helping the Lady Tiger volleyball team to another top-10 national ranking.
“I have loved every second of my time at Cowley. We have such great community support,” Campbell said. “Our goal with the volleyball team is to get back to nationals and win the national championship.”
After Cowley, the pre-dentistry major wants to attend a four-year school with a good volleyball team and dental program.
“I have always been interested in teeth,” Campbell said.
In her free time away from volleyball and her studies, Campbell enjoys hanging out with friends and going on adventures.
Last year, Campbell watched as her Lady Tiger teammate Brylee Burroughs got to enjoy being a Queen candidate. This year, she will get to be a part of the festivities.
“I am honored, it’s a great reward,” Campbell said.
After college she hopes to open her own dental facility. But for now, she plans on enjoying Arkalalah.
“I hope to get closer with the girls and experience everything with them,” Campbell said. “I am excited to see what is in store for me.”
