The Arkansas City Recreation Center offers many opportunities for the community, from sports to a fitness center that all can enjoy.

If you are looking for something to do this summer or want to enjoy a sport, the Ark City Rec Center has just the thing for you.

For instance, softball and baseball are coming up, for ages 3 and older. There are organized leagues and tournaments. Leagues are determined by age.

Soccer games are played Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Summer sports

Upcoming summer sports include youth football, summer youth volleyball leagues, summer gymnastics, summer tennis, youth golf lessons and youth team golf.

Youth football registration is from May 1 through July 28 for grades 3-6. Practices will start in early August and games are scheduled for Saturdays in September and October. The fee for football is $65, which included equipment. Register at the Rec Center, located at 225 E. Fifth Ave., or online at www.arkcityrec.org, with a $3 fee per transaction.

Volleyball registration begins May 1 and lasts through June 23 for students in grades 3-6. Team practices will start in July, with games scheduled on weeknights in July through mid-August. The fee is $20.

Gymnastics is offered in two-week sessions that are held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings during the summer. The cost per session is $30.

Tennis for grades K-12 will be offered during the months of June and July. Pre-registration is held in May, and the fee is $30 for June and $20 for July.

Golf will be held on Tuesdays, starting in June, for ages 8-16. Registration is in May, with a $25 fee.

Fitness center

If you are looking to get in shape and sports are not your thing, there also is a fitness center that is open to the public, offering the latest in cardiovascular and strength training equipment.

Daily, monthly and annual memberships are offered for those aged 12 or older. Fitness center prices are $20 per month.

Fitness center equipment includes Paramount weight machines, treadmills, elliptical cross trainers, exercise bikes, Stairmaster machines and free weights.
