The funds donated were raised last December, when Schmidt’s offered a special bracelet promotion.

“Last year, we did a pair of freshwater pearl earrings and the proceeds went to Communities in Schools,” said Blanche Schmidt. “This year we selected BBBS.”

The bracelet special was a set of three bracelets — including strands of freshwater pearl and crystal beads — that were sold for $10 each.

“We selected BBBS because we believe in the importance of making a difference in the life of a child,” Schmidt said, “and how a supportive relationship with an adult can make a huge impact upon the success of a child in school, in society and, overall, their future.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters provides children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported, one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better — forever.

BBBS of Cowley County helps boys and girls, most of whom are considered at risk and live in single-parent homes.

There are more than 100 young people waiting to be matched in Cowley County. Only 30 minutes a week can change the life of a child in the community.
