Following an hour-long regular meeting, the South Central Kansas Medical Center Board of Trustees held nearly two hours of executive sessions Nov. 17.
While the last 20-minute session was for discussions regarding chief executive officer Virgil Watson’s evaluation, the remaining time spent in executive session was to discuss “matters of non-elected personnel” and risk management.
However, after both executive sessions, the hospital board came back into open session and voted unanimously to move forward with plans to convert part of the medical center into a department for long-term geriatric psychiatric care.
The current SCKMC obstetrics unit would be converted for this purpose and the OB department would be moved into another section of the hospital. Plans for the added department were not discussed in open session, nor was any information shared Nov. 17.
A news release with more details will be provided as early as Nov. 18, according to hospital staff.
