Spring is in full swing, so that means events and activities have begun to fill the calendar.

In Arkansas City, each season brings a number of annual events and often a few new ones. Plan to be a part of the fun this month!

Held in the spring, summer and fall in Wilson Park, this event just keeps getting bigger and better. Come enjoy more than 60 vendors from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 22. There will be food, art, jewelry, handmade crafts, baked goods and vintage treasures. Admission is free!

Later that night, the Cowley County Friends of NRA banquet will be held at the Agri-Business Building, located at 712 W. Washington Ave.

Our NRA banquet is the largest in Kansas, hosting 500 guests annually.

The event will feature a delicious barbecue dinner, games, drawings and a live auction. Tickets are available at Reedy Ford in Arkansas City or Home on the Range in Winfield.

For the theater buffs, be sure to catch the production of “Rumors” by Neil Simon, presented by Cowley College. Show nights are at 7:30 p.m. April 20-22. Tickets are available for $10 through Cowley College.

The City of Arkansas City, the Arkansas City Chamber of Commerce, and the Convention and Visitors Bureau are celebrating Arbor Day at 5 p.m. April 28. There will be food vendors, live entertainment and tree plantings, followed by the Friday movie night. This is an event that you will want to be a part of!

The city, along with generous members of our community, also are excited to host the 2017 Outdoor Friday Family Movie Series under the Wilson Park rotunda. The movies will start at 7 p.m. Bring the kids, blankets, lawn chairs and snacks, and enjoy a free movie in the park!

The final date for this month will be April 28, when “The Lorax” will be sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce as a part of the Arbor Day celebration. Additional movies will be shown in May, June and July.

Be sure to check with the Arkansas City Public Library, the Arkansas City Recreation Center, Cherokee Strip Land Rush Museum, Ark City Arts, and the Chaplin Nature Center for the fantastic lineup of events and activities that they offer each month.
