Renowned jazz musician Rick Stitzel, a 1965 Arkansas City High School graduate, will join the ACHS Jazz Band and Nouveau Quartet in an upcoming concert.
The concert will be at 7 p.m. March 13 in the ACHS auditorium, located at 1200 W. Radio Lane. It is free and open to the public.
“I am honored to be part of such a great night of jazz and I feel so fortunate to be able to offer it to our community,” said Arkansas City Middle School Band Director Hans Judd.
Before the concert, students will spend the day participating in a clinic with Stitzel.
He’s been active in jazz education for more than 30 years as a performer, composer, arranger and author.
ACHS Band Director Chris VanGilder said he, Judd and the students are very fortunate to have this learning opportunity provided by the V.J. Wilkins Foundation and USD 470.
“To be able to work with a world-class performer, composer and educator who is also an ACHS graduate is a special honor, and we are all looking forward to an outstanding concert,” VanGilder said.
“Our guests are absolutely top-notch musicians and educators,” Judd added.
“It will be an invaluable experience from which our students will learn a great deal and a show they will likely never forget.”
