With the first day of fall semester classes at Cowley College slated to begin Aug. 15, the college has been busy with renovations to its main campus in Arkansas City.
Those interested in enrolling for classes will see a new look at the college’s admissions office as the remodeling of that area nears completion.
Along with new carpet and paint, walls have been torn down and new ones put up.
The admissions and business offices will be separated only by a partition wall.
This will allow for a one-stop process in which students can visit with admissions and financial aid representatives before having the option to pay their bill, all in one location.
Kristi Shaw, executive director of enrollment management, has new furniture set to arrive that will match the new carpet and paint, while a new testing center located in the basement of Galle-Johnson Hall also is nearing completion. “It looks amazing,” Shaw said.
The maintenance crew has worked hard to complete the renovation by Aug. 1, according to Todd Ray, maintenance and grounds supervisor.
Tiger Enrollment Night for fall classes will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 8. During this event, prospective students can have their scholarship and financial aid questions answered while viewing the renovations to the admissions and business offices. Refreshments and prizes will be provided.
The maintenance crew and members of the college’s information technology staff also have been busy this summer with moving the journalism department and Cowley Press student newspaper offices from the Kerr Technology Building to the upper lever of the Brown Center.
Individuals visiting the student affairs office will notice new paint there, as well as in the Nelson Student Center game room and movie room. New furniture for the game room also has been ordered and will arrive prior to the start of the new semester.
Work on installation of new campus video surveillance camera systems began recently, while APCO Graphics, Inc. will be on campus on Aug. 10 to begin designing new exterior signage to beautify the campus and ease wayfinding.
During these construction projects, the college remains open to serve the needs of its students. Those interested in enrolling for the fall semester can call (620) 441-5303 or visit www.cowley.edu/enroll.
