The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its 2016 Academic Awards on July 21.

The Cowley College men’s and women’s tennis programs were named ITA All-Academic Teams, while eight Cowley College women’s tennis players and four men’s players made the list of individual Scholar-Athlete award recipients.

The ITA All-Academic Team award was open to any ITA program that had a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.0 scale).

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player had to be a varsity letter-winner, have a grade-point average of at least 3.5 for the current academic year and have been enrolled at his or her present school for at least two semesters.

Cowley College men’s tennis players Tim Fischer, Blake Graham, Ronald Rufyikiri and Ben Zoller were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, as were women’s tennis players Peyton Adams, Kasey Coker, Sarah Frendo, Abigail Garcia, Ashley Huslig, Sara Petric, Andjela Rajovic and Logyn Williams.

“I am very proud of the men’s and women’s teams for being in the top eight in the nation on the court, along with receiving this Academic Team Award,” said Cowley head tennis coach Charity Andrews. “These student-athletes work hard on and off the court, and are proud they are Cowley Tigers.”
